Hodgepodge…

Today, our blog post will be about a variety of little things that have been going on around the studio and that we think will be of interest to you!

-The fireplace finally got painted!
-All the needlework patterns have been sorted, organized and filed. (We even found a really cool ribbon embroidery kit with the ribbon included!) The Christmas ones are all separated, so you can find them quick…its about that time folks!
-Due to popular request, we have sorted, priced and arranged some fabric ranging from small little squares (perfect for a sachet) up to yardage.
-Set up the children’s play area. Reilly seems to think it works great, so bring in your own small person and try it out. We have lincoln logs, magnets, dress up, marbles, books and more, all in a semi-enclosed area.
-Organized the embroidery patterns as well. There are many retro and vintage designs that are now available for use in the studio.
-Linda has been working on a unique, funky and totally Wynona Studios “Open” “Shut” sign for our door, using her button stash, some fabbbbbbbbbbulous turquoise velvet and an embroidery hoop.
-We have deconstructed some more sweaters and have added cotton in lilac and deep purple, silk/cotton in ocean blue, and merino/silk/cashmere in electric avocado to our yarn shelves. All recycled yarn, so the price is very good!
-We have also replenished our fiber supply and have a few new bags of fiber as well and some braids available if you want to spin.
-Thanks to our friends Judy and Carl our drum carder is back in working shape and good to go! Come play with your fiber and give it a whirl!

Last but not least, please consider attending one of our ever-growing Thursday Knit Nights from 5:30pm-7:00pm. This is a free event and open to anyone! We love to have new people, so bring any project and come join us…and if you don’t have a project going come anyways!

As the World Turns….

As the World Turns final episode viewing party at Wynona Studios September 17th.

Wynona Studios is named after and in honor of my great grandmother, Wynona Kelly.  Wynona’s “story” was always As The World Turns. When you were with her for the day, you would take a “little rest” after lunch to watch that days episodes. She started following it when it was on the radio and then switched to tv, but never liked how they expanded to an hour, even though she kept watching.

When I was a little girl and we lived in Alaska, we did not have live tv. We were on a two week tape delay instead. She would always complain when she came to visit for a couple weeks every couple of years, as she would have to watch two weeks of episodes she had already seen, and then go home and be two weeks behind. My mom would tease her that she only watched it every couple of years while Nona was visiting and she could keep up with what was happening, so two weeks should be no problem. Grandma still didn’t like it.

Well this Friday, the 17th, is the last ever episode of As the World Turns. It will air at 1pm, and in honor of Wynona, we will be holding a viewing party. Bring your knitting, crocheting, or just sparkling personality and join us as we celebrate one of our favorite memories of Wynona Kelly!

The Thursday Thimble Club of Scio, OR

Wynona Studios is named after my great-grandmother, Wynona Kelly. She was a founding member of the Thursday Thimble Club of Scio OR. This group of lovely ladies was founded in 1916, and they got together until they just couldn’t any more in the learly 90′s. They would gather at each others houses on Thursday afternoons and do their mending, knitting, darning, embroidery, and other hand work. They would also gossip, share in good times and bad and enjoy some treats and punch. They would giggle, cry and encourage each other through all the phases of their lives, from young women, to young brides, to young mothers, to empty nesters and grandmothers and great grandmothers. They even had their own song!

We hold “Knit Night” on Thursdays to honor this group of women. We hope that as the attendees for Knit Night grow, that we too will still be gathering together on Thursdays to mend, knit, darn, gossip, laugh and cry together. So come join us on Thursdays from 5:30pm-7:00pm! We would love to see you. (And we promise not to make you sing!)

Thursday Thimble Club

Tune – Blest Be the Tie That Binds

On Thursday the Thimble Club meets,

and each one her neighbor can greet.

There’s grandmas and mamas and babies so sweet

All come when our Thimble Club meets.

We quilt or we sew or we darn.

We laugh and we talk and we spin our yarns.

We all feel so gay in our friendly way,

Our work simply goes like a charm.

After we all get to club,

There’s always a sizable gang,

The president raps to stop the chats

And the meeting starts off with a bang.

Then discussions of what we may do

To help those in need that we knew.

To the sick we send flowers- to others give showers.

A happy friendly family are we.
