Introducing….Insidious Plans, LLC

We would like to introduce our exclusive janitorial contractors, Insidious Plans, LLC (formerly known as Insidious Plan, Inc….but if you are going to be insidious, its really best to limit your liability, so they changed it).  These handsome young men will be sweeping, mopping, wiping up and fetching and carrying for us this summer here at Wynona Studios. The Foster boys are not generally known for their tidiness, so we are hoping this will create a new skill set and appreciation for the cleaning arts among them. That is Ryan on the left, Ethan in the middle, and Brice holding Willie on the right. Say hi if you see them, and don’t hesitiate to give them any pointers, they can use all the advice they can get.

How do you get a hula hoop out of a tree?

Somehow….no one is claiming responsibility…the blue hula hoop from WWKIP Day ended up very high up in one of the trees in the parking lot adjacent to the studio. It apparently was a spontaneous thing…someone was hula hooping so fast it amazingly flew 10 feet in the air onto the branch.

The boys tried very hard to retrieve it before letting me know it was good and stuck. They tried throwing baseballs at it, trying to lasso it with the jumprope, and then resorted to trying to yell it down. After giggling from the back door at Ethan throwing the jumprope and repeatedly hitting himself in the back of the head with the handle (I know…not a nice Mom. But it was FUNNY!) I sent Emma out to help them and went back to work on the bookkeeping.

I vaguely noticed when she came in to get the broom, then started to pay a little better attention when Ethan came in for the roll of packing tape and then got up to go see what was going on when he came back in again for the step ladder. At the back door I saw my brilliant children solving a problem in a….creative way. Emma was on the step ladder and Ethan was sitting on the legs so it would not wobble. She had the jumprope and was throwing it through the bottom of the hula hoop. She got it through the hoop and then used the broom to move the handle down to where she could reach both handles and then tugged hard enough to get it down. We all cheered and someone walking on the sidewalk looked up to see what was going on.

I can only imagine what they thought. So…if you ever need to get a hula hoop out of a tree you know who to call. (Ethan would like me to also let you know that if you need to get a hula hoop into a tree to let him know. He knows a guy that knows a guy. At least, thats his story…and he’s sticking to it. )

Happy Sweet Sixteen Emma!

It is Emma’s 16th birthday today. I can not believe 16 years have flown by so fast. She is turning into such a beautiful, thoughtful, intelligent, young woman. I love that she walks her own path, is passionate about things she cares about, and has made such good choices this year. I am very proud of her and cannot wait to see what the next 16 years bring.

Happy Birthday Emmanona! We love you!

Soft Opening

We are doing some soft openings for the rest of June. We will not keep the regular hours and/or days, but if we are there, then you are welcome to stop in and get aquainted! We would love to meet you and will be taking class sign ups, selling memberships and punch cards and give you a tour. You are also welcome to bring in a pattern you have a question about, or a project that has you stumped for a little one on one help! Membershipswill start July 1st.

A good time to stop by is on Wednesday afternoons. Downtown Oregon City has a new farmer’s market that is quite fun and just kitty corner from our shop. We put out the recycled crocheted cotton market bags for sale, and chat with all the lovely folks off to buy strawberries, and peonies, and Diana’s Delights Radish Relish (sooooo good!).

So stop by when you see the lights on to say hi, purchase your July membership and take a tour of the studio! (If you are coming from further away, just call us at 503-974-9193 to see if we are there. )

We are working on our class schedule this week for July classes. Our theme for July will be baby knitting and crocheting, so we will have a few classes related to that, in addition to Learn to Knit, Learn to Crochet, and Next Steps in Knitting classes. I enjoy making baby items in the summer months because they are so small and light! There are some classes posted now and more will be added later this week. You can sign up and pay right here on the website, or pop in at 719 Main Street, Oregon City, OR 97045 any time we are here.

We will have a KAL for the classic Baby Surprise Jacket by Elizabeth Zimmermann. This is my “go to” project whenever I have a special baby arriving in my family or group of friends. It is so clever and fun, but the pattern is different than anything I have seen before. If you have never made one before and want a little help, of if this is your 20th and you want to work on it alongside others, sign up for the KAL! It will start on Saturday July 10th from 1pm-2pm and will go for four weeks.

Please email, call or stop by if you have any special requests for classes. We will do our best to schedule it or find an instructor if we have enough interest, or we can schedule a private lesson for you if we can’t!

Our gold frames on the wall are waiting for your complete projects to fill them up, so come take a class!

Wynona Studios hosting Free WWKIP Day event June 19th!

To introduce Wynona Studios (opening the end of June) to the wonderful PDX metro area fibery folk and to introduce our neighbors on Main Street to the wonderful fibery folk  of the PDX metro area, Wynona Studios will be hosting a World Wide Knit In Public Day (www.wwkipday.com) on June 19th from noon to 4pm. This is, of course, a free event and everyone is welcome.  Please RSVP by emailing wynonastudios@gmail.com, or call us at 503-974-9193, so we know how much lemonade and how many prizes to get. Talk to you soon!!

We will provide an indoor space, pink lemonade and some games and activities (with prizes!). You provide some cookies to share, laughter, and knitting.

We are located at 719 Main Street in historic downtown Oregon City. We are located only four quick blocks from the Oregon City Transit Center, 1 1/2 blocks from the famous Oregon City Municipal Elevator (you can park up on the bluff and take the elevator down if parking is hard to find on Main Street), and only one block off of McLoughlin. Take the downtown Oregon City exit off of 205 and turn left on 10th street (if you turned right you would be in the Willamette River), make the first right onto Main Street, go past the Courthouse and we are the next block on your right. Parking is on the street, but on Saturdays it is free and easier to find.

We have about 25 seats in the studio, and there are park benches on Main Street as well, but if you must have a seat, please bring a portable chair with you just in case. We have many great restaurants on Main Street including Mi Famiglia, Phi Tho, The Verdict, a McMenamins and more in case you get hungry. We will have some charity knitting projects going, so if you don’t have a project currently, but still want to come, you are welcome to work on one of those. The spinning wheel, winding station, niddy noddys and more will all be available for anyone that wants to use them as well.
